Youth News, 8/30

No UMYF This Sunday (9/2): Happy Labor Day! We will meet next Sunday (9/9) from 6-8pm in the CLLC. All 7th – 12th graders are invited to come see what happens when you GET OFF THE PEW during a worship service. The results will amaze you! Come for games, food, and a new perspective.

Operation Christmas Child Involvement! Our toy gathering for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes has officially begun! Your first challenge: look through your toy chests and the dark corners of your closets. If you have “GENTLY USED”, “LIKE NEW” matchbox cars, small stuffed animals (like Beanie Babies), or long forgotten Legos, donate them to this wonderful cause. Any small toy in good condition will brighten the lives of children around the world. Collection boxes can be found near all children and youth Sunday School classrooms.

Also, remember that any offering you bring to Sunday School on Sunday mornings will be used to support the purchase of shoebox gifts for Hibben's Packing Party on October 28.  Bring your spare change or leftover lunch money and plan to give generously.

Need Service Hours? If you need to earn service hours, Beth Hernandez could use your help organizing clothes and food in the pantry for The Table.  If you would be interested in lending a helping hand, please contact Elizabeth (884-9761) or econnell at hibbenumc dot com.

Kayaking Pictures

Check out these pictures from Hibben's Family Paddle last Sunday.  It was a beautiful day to be out in the water with some really fun people.  Thanks to everyone who came out, and especially thanks for not tipping my boat over!

(Lots of) Youth News, 08/08

Fall is just around the corner, and with Fall's arrival comes a host of new and exciting activities for Hibben's teenagers!  Check out the calendar below and make plans now to get involved for the fun, the spiritual growth, and to strengthen your awesome group of Christian friends.  Check out these announcements:

Boat Day Thank You!  A huge thank you to the Nyers family, the Hand family, and the Basco family for your help in making Boat Day last Sunday a ton of fun.  The gloomy weather didn't damped our spirits, and we appreciate these families who lent their boat and captain skills to the cause.  It was a great way to bid a fond farewell to summer.

UMYF Meals Needed:  Parents!  We are in need of volunteers to provide dinner for several upcoming UMYF meetings.  If you're able to provide a meal for 20 people at 6pm on any of the following dates, please e-mail me (econnell@hibbenumc.org) and let me know:  This Sunday! (Aug. 12), August 19, September 16, September 23.  Thank you!

UMYF This Sunday (8/12): Did you know that there are 68 Hibben members between the ages of 12 - 18? That's a lot of people!  This week at UMYF, we'll talk about how we can welcome the folks we rarely see and get them involved in our youth programs and activities.  Bring your best ideas and join us from 6-8pm in the CLLC.  We'll play some new games and have dinner, too!

UMYF on August 26: We're hitting the water (again) on August 26 for our UMYF meeting, from noon - 5:30pm.  It's time for the first ever Hibben Family Paddle, when we'll climb in kayaks and explore the Shem Creek area.  Cost per person is $28 and includes a kayak and a guide.  A deposit of $14 is due by August 23.  We'll have lunch at Hibben before we head out on our 4-hour tour.  Contact Elizabeth for more info (econnell@hibbenumc.org) or to sign-up.  Don't miss this fun outing!  Parents and siblings are invited, too!

Mark your calendar!  We're headed to James Island County Park on Saturday, September 29 from noon - 6pm to spend the day outside with youth from United Methodist churches across Charleston.  Cost per person is $5 and includes a day at the park, dinner, and special worship time.  Sign-up with Elizabeth today to reserve your space!
