MESSY GAME NIGHT!

Get ready for some sloppy summer fun at UMYF this Sunday (6/28). Come dressed for mess - we'll have dinner and then head outside for GAMES, GAMES, GAMES. You might want to bring a towel, too. Hope to see you there from 6 - 8pm.

Talkin' Trash

Last Sunday at UMYF, we continued talking about caring for our environment. We took an Environmental IQ quiz, talked about recyclable packaging and began a new environment initative at UMYF - reusable cups!
Is it just my imagination, or is there smoke coming from Bill Yaeger's ears?

And what would summer at MYF be without a "snowball" fight?!?!

VBS Helpers!

A huge shout-out to all the youth who helped out at Vacation Bible School last week. You guys did an AMAZING job with Hibben's little ones. It was so fun to see your interactions with them - your tireless patience, enthusiasm, and the wonderful example you set for them were awesome. Thank you for giving of your time and yourselves!

Carowinds Craziness!

We had a great time at Carowinds last weekend - here are some pictures to prove it! Saturday was a HOT day filled with all sorts of fun. SonFest provided some great music and I think everyone got their fill of roller coasters.

SonFest bands included Hawk Nelson, Remedy Drive, Third Day and Toby Mac. The crowd was full of energy and the music was amazing!

These 3D glasses are quite the fashion statement, huh?

A group shot after a fun-filled day:

After the park, we headed to St. John's UMC in Rock Hill, where we spent the night in their AWESOME youth area, The Core. After some pool, ping-pong, shuffle board, Guitar Hero and showers, it was lights out! The next day, we enjoyed St. John's contemporary worship service before hitting the road back to Mt. Pleasant. A special thanks to Austin Bond and the great folks at St. John's for their hospitality!

And finally, see if you can guess who wasn't really sleeping on the way home...

H.Y.P.E.R. News, June 10

Take a second to look at the below recap of last week's UMYF meeting!

Sunday, June 14: We will not be having UMYF on Sunday night due to the Carowinds trip.

Saturday, June 20: Mark your calendar and bring your dirty car to Hibben for the Salkehatchie Car Wash! Salkehatchie participants will be washing cars from 9:00 am - noon to raise money. Stop by and give dad a clean car for Father's Day!

Sunday, June 21: We WILL be having UMYF on Father's Day, and we hope to see you there! From 6 - 8pm, we'll be continuing our discussion on the environment. Stop by - you'll learn something AND have fun at the same time!

What's That Smell?

Lesson learned - leaving trash from the beach sweep in my office for a full week resulted in some serious stink. But look at all the trash we collected!

We sorted the trash (pew!) into items that could be recycled and stuff that was just plain old trash.

And then, Carlsen lead a great debate/discussion about how a "Bottle Bill" would positively or negatively impact the recycling scene. For more info about Bottle Bills, visit http://www.bottlebill.org/

It was a great night! Take another look at all the trash we collected during our beach sweep. I'm amazed by that picture! Next time you're at the beach, make a small effort to clean the shore around you. If everyone pitches in, we can make a BIG difference...

Quite possibly the best game. Ever.

The game we played last Sunday night doesn't have an official name. But it's AWESOME.

The object is simple. Drop a marshmellow covered in chocolate syurp into your partner's mouth. After one minute, the team with the most successful "makes" wins. Let's see some action shots:

After the dust settled, the team of Jesse Meelan and Will Clark emerged the champions! Congrats, guys. And thanks for all the future blackmail photos!

H.Y.P.E.R. News, June 3

Check out these events, scheduled for Sunday, June 7:
- Salkehatchie Bake Sale: Be sure to stop by the bake sale in the Apostle's Walk on Sunday for your early morning sugar rush! Proceeds from the sale benefit this summer's Salkehatchie participants.
- UMYF, 6-8pm: Remember all that trash we collected at the beach? You know, the same trash that's currently STINKING UP my office in the CLLC? Well, we're going to dump it all out and see what we found. Then, put your thinking caps on, because we're going to have a real, live trash debate! Yep, that's right - we're going to encourage you to (politely) disagree with one another.

CONGRATULATIONS to all our Seniors who are graduating on Friday! We're so proud of you!!

SONFEST at Carowinds

Celebrate the start of your summer vacation at Carowinds! We'll be going for SONFEST, an all day Christian music concert on June 13. We'll leave Hibben at 7:00 am on Saturday morning (6/13) and spend the day riding roller coasters and enjoying some great music. We'll spend Saturday night at St. John's UMC in Rock Hill and attend their 9 am contemporary worship service before returning to Hibben at 1:30 pm.

Cost per person is $50 and includes park and concert admission, transporation and breakfast on Sunday morning. Bring some extra money for lunch and dinner at Carowinds. If you plan to join us, you must contact Elizabeth by Tuesday, June 9 at 843-813-8700 or skogman_33@hotmail.com.

Beach Sweep!

Last Sunday (May 31), UMYF officially went GREEN! Our group of 26 folks tackled the beach at the Isle of Palms to pick up trash and have a little fun.
We enjoyed a picnic dinner, grabbed our laytex gloves and found lots of trash!
During the months of June and July, we'll be learning about how we are called to be good stewards of the earth, caring for God's creation. Join in the fun!
