Revolution Re-cap

2012 marked the third year of Revolution, the state-wide youth conference in Columbia, and this year was the best yet! We were welcomed to the Colonial Life Arena for three days of music, laughter, new friends, and one of the best speakers ever...Jeniffer Dake!  Check out these pictures and make sure to sign-up next year.  It's one of the best weekends of the whole year!

Be sure to check out the next post for the latest UMYF News.

UMYF News, 3/22

UMYF This Sunday:  We're back in action tonight from 6-8pm in the CLLC for session 5 of The Journey to Hope.  It's all about recharging your physical, emotional, and spiritual batteries...and you'll have the chance to win CANDY!  See you for dinner, games, and a little learning along the way.

Salkehatchie Deadline Fast Approaching:  If you haven't started on your registration for Salkehatchie, get to work!  The deadline for forms and payment is March 31 (that’s a week from Saturday!).  Visit www.salkehatchie.org to download the form, and let Elizabeth know once you've mailed your info to the Salkehatchie office so you can be added to Hibben's transportation list.  Hibben will be sending groups to Spartanburg (June 16 - 23) and Lexington (July 7 - 14). PLEASE NOTE: If you need financial assistance, please see Elizabeth!  Don’t let money stand in the way of this amazing experience.

TLC Needed! We're just a few days away from getting all new (matching!) furniture for the Youth Room, which means we need to get to work on sprucing up the space. We'll have a work day TOMORROW (3/23) starting at 10am.  There's no school, so you have no excuse!  Lend a helping hand with projects like cleaning, building, painting, and more.  Lunch will be provided, so come when you can and stay as long as you can!  If you’re busy in the morning but can come in the afternoon, call Elizabeth (813-8700) to make sure we’re still working.

“The Table” Block Party:  Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 21 from 11am – 1pm for the first ever block party, sponsored by Hibben’s Homeless Ministry, “The Table.”  We’ll be grilling up hamburgers and hot dogs for our neighbors and community, welcoming them for a free lunch, some encouragement, and some food and necessities to take with them.  Make plans to come out and pitch in for this rewarding cause.

A look ahead:  Check out these upcoming dates and update your calendars:
April 1 – UMYF from 6-8pm
April 8 – No UMYF – Happy Easter!
April 15 – UMYF from 6-8pm
April 22: Hibben Family Picnic, noon – 3pm at Palmetto Islands County Park; no UMYF
April 29: Church wide softball game – details coming soon!

TLC Needed! If you swing by the youth room on Sunday, you'll notice that something's missing...ALL THE FURNITURE!  We're just 12 days away from getting all new (matching!) furniture for the Youth Room, which gives us plenty of time to spruce up the room. We'll have a work day NEXT FRIDAY (3/23) starting at 10am.  There's no school, so you have no excuse!  Lend a helping hand with projects like cleaning, building, painting, and more.  Lunch will be provided, so come when you can and stay as long as you can!  Parents are welcome, too.  We need all hands on deck to transform the Youth Room!

Salkehatchie: If you haven't started on your registration for Salkehatchie, get to work!  The deadline for forms and payment is March 31.  Visit www.salkehatchie.org to download the form, and let Elizabeth know once you've mailed your info to the Salkehatchie office so you can be added to Hibben's transportation list.  Hibben will be sending groups to Spartanburg (June 16 - 23) and Lexington (July 14 - 21).

UMYF News, 3/8

UMYF this Sunday (3/11): How many truly important things do you miss in life because you're busy with insignificant things?  It's a little scary to think about!  All 7th - 12th graders are invited Sunday to take the Ultimate Awareness Test.  I failed it the first time I took it…will you?  See you from 6-8pm in the CLLC.

Sr. High Sunday School:  This Sunday (3/11) bring a little coffee money.  We’re taking a break from our “Sticky Faith” study to head to Starbucks for some coffee and conversation.  Meet in the Youth Room at 9:15am and we’ll walk over together.

Help Needed!  Youth AND parents…your help is needed on Wednesday, March 14 at The Gathering to help beef up the UMYF Scholarship fund, which helps folks pay for trips and activities.  Come on over after school to help cook and serve dinner, and have fun in the process.  We'll be finished at 6:45pm.  This is a great way to earn service hours while helping your friends!

Schedule note: There will be no UMYF on March 18 due to Revolution.

UMYF News, 3/1

UMYF this Sunday! I must really, really love the youth at Hibben (I do!) because on Sunday, I'm unveiling a slide show of my most terrible hair moments.  Here's a sneak peak, age 10:

Bad, right?  There's a point, I promise!  Where does your self esteem come from?  Having good hair?  Nice shoes?  Lots of friends?  Or does it come from knowing you're made in the image of God?  Bad hair changes (thankfully!), but God never does.  Come from 6-8pm on Sunday to see (lots) more bad hair, plus games, dinner, and a self-esteem boost.

Kairos Cookies!  Break out the mixing bowl and preheat the oven this weekend to do some cookie baking to support Kairos Prison Ministry.  Karen King is headed to prison next week to minister to the inmates, and she needs our cookies.  Bring your donation to Sunday School UMYF on Sunday.

Help needed!  Consider helping out at the Belize Silent Auction on March 10 from 5-9pm.  Volunteers are needed to serve food, help people at the auction, and generally be friendly.  If you’re busy on the 10th, then come on the 9th after school and help with the auction set-up.  Who says you can’t be a missionary to Belize by helping out here at home?!?!  Let me know if you’d like more info about this opportunity.
