Dinner Needed:  Can your family provide dinner for UMYF this Sunday?  We're in need of a meal for about 20 people, to be served at 6pm.  If you are able to help, please e-mail Elizabeth at econnell@hibbenumc.org.  Nothing fancy is required!  We love pizza!

Charlotte Trip: We're headed to Charlotte, Dec. 7-8 to work a shift at the Operation Christmas Child processing center.  Cost is $40 per person and scholarships are available!  We'll spend the night in Charlotte after our Saturday evening shift, and attend church on Sunday morning before heading home.  Participants must be at least 12 years old, and parents are welcome to come along!  To sign-up, contact Elizabeth (econnell@hibbenumc.org or 813-8700).

Youth News, 10/10

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!  After 8-weeks off to enjoy Owen's arrival, and to adjust to life with him, I'm happy to say I'm back at work part time.  I'll be working a part time schedule until late November, so you may not see as much of me as you're used to (which you might just enjoy)!  Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers, and if you haven't met Owen yet, we hope to introduce you soon!

Here are some announcement for the week, followed by some pictures of Owen's first UMYF meeting last Sunday.  Hope to see you at church this week!

UMYF This Sunday (10/13): It's (almost) the most wonderful time of the year!  Come tonight and get in the Christmas spirit as we learn about Operation Christmas Child and help prepare for the church-wide packing party on November 3.  We will be painting, so don't wear your best clothes.  We'll also enjoy dinner!  All 7th - 12th graders are invited from 6-8pm in the gym

TOYS, TOYS, TOYS!  Hibben's kids and youth have been charged with the delightful task of collecting TOYS to be used at the church-wide Operation Christmas Child packing party on November 3.  All kids and youth are encouraged to clean out closets and toy boxes in search of NEW or VERY GENTLY USED toys that will fit in a shoe box.  Or, include a small toy purchase on your next shopping list.  You can bring your donations to the drop box outside Elizabeth's office.

Fall Festival:  October 19 is an exciting day in the life of Hibben...it's the annual Fall Festival!  The festival is a wonderful outreach to the Mt. Pleasant community and a great way to spend a few hours outside in the beautiful fall weather.  Youth volunteers are needed to help carry grocery bags for guests of The Table, and to be helping hands throughout the festival where help is needed.  This is a great way to support the church that is so supportive of you!  If you are able to volunteer, please e-mail Elizabeth (econnell@hibbenumc.org).  The festival is from 10am - 2pm, and you can volunteer to help all or part of the time.

Revolution 2014!  It's back for another great year!  Mark your calendars for February 14-16 in Columbia for this state-wide youth gathering.  This year's event will feature a new speaker, new band, and some great new surprises!  More details will follow soon.  For now, mark your calendars and get excited!

Meals needed!  Without support from wonderful families like yours, our tradition of serving dinner at UMYF meetings is in danger of ending!  When no one signs up to provide dinner, the cost of the meal comes out of the UMYF annual budget, limiting what we're able to do in ministry with Hibben's youth.  We are in need of meals on April 14, May 5, May 12, and May 19.  Are you able to help?  Food is needed for 20 people, served at 6pm.  If you can pitch in, please email Elizabeth with the date you'd prefer: econnell@hibbenumc.org.

30-hour Famine:  We have already raised almost $1,200 to fight hunger around the world!  Keep up the great work.  It's still not too late to join Hibben’s team! All 7th – 12th graders (and any adults who’d like to join our fast) should go to 30hourfamine.com and join Hibben’s fundraising team. Our fast will be April 26-27, and our goal is to raise enough money to feed 10 people for 1 year. We’ve got our sights set on raising $3,600 or more and we need your help. Contact Elizabeth with questions (econnell@hibbenumc.org) and get ready for a life changing experience.

Summer Bible Study: Would you be interested in attending a mid-week Bible Study this summer?  Days and times are still in the works (no early mornings, promise!), but we'd love to gather a small group to dig deeper into God's word and learn how it impacts your life.  If you'd be interested in joining such a group, please e-mail Elizabeth: econnell@hibbenumc.org.

Salkehatchie: All youth ages 14 and older are encouraged to attend Salkehatchie summer service this summer! It’s a life changing service opportunity here in South Carolina. Hibben will be sending groups to Spartanburg, June 15-22 and to Lexington County, July 13-20 (or, you can pick another camp that works with your schedule). To register, go to Salkehatchie.org, print the application, and mail it to the address at the bottom of the form. SPACES ARE FILLING UP, so register now if you haven’t already! Once your application has been sent, please notify Elizabeth by e-mailing econnell@hibbenumc.org. Financial assistance is available!

Act Up! Spring Retreat:  Due to a lack of response/interest, the spring retreat planned for April 12-14 to Murrell's Inlet is being postponed.  Please stay tuned for info about a future event or teaching series on love, dating, sex, and intimacy as it is such an important topic to address from a Christian perspective.

UMYF Meals: We are in need of dinner at UMYF on the following dates.  Food is needed for 20 people, to be served at 6pm.  If your family is able to help, please e-mail Elizabeth (econnell@hibbenumc.org):  April 7, April 14, May 5, May 12, May 19, May 26.  Thanks in advance for helping with this special aspect of youth ministry!

Youth News, 2/28

Sunday School!  If you haven't been to Sunday School in awhile (...or ever...), come this Sunday and start March off on the right foot.  The Jr. High class (7th - 8th grades), lead by Tim Ristau and Trish Harlan, meets upstairs in the education building.  The Sr. High class (9th - 12th grades) will be baking cookies this Sunday to support Kairos Prison Ministry.  Meet in the CLLC kitchen!  Both classes meet from 9:15 - 10:15am.

UMYF this Sunday (3/3): Free Jimmy John’s for dinner! What more do you need to know?!? All 7th – 12th graders are invited from 6-8pm in the CLLC. We’ll have dinner (FREE JIMMY JOHN’S!), play games inspired by last Sunday’s marker war, and take some time to SLOW DOWN and support one another on our faith journeys. Invite a friend and join in the fun!

Youth! Mark your calendars: You do NOT want to miss the 30-hour Famine Kick-off Party on March 24 from 6-8pm in the CLLC. We’ll have a great dinner, set our fundraising goal, learn about what shockingly colorful thing will happen WHEN we raise $5,000, and have all sorts of motivating, inspirational FUN. Invite any friends who might want to participate in the Famine, April 26-27.

"Act Up” this Spring! ALL 7th-12th graders are invited to “Act Up” in April! We’re headed to Murrell’s Inlet, April 12-14 for a spring retreat to get away and talk about the all-important and sometimes confusing subjects of dating, love, sex, boundaries, and how all those things can fit perfectly into your Christian walk. If you’re anything like 99.8% of your peers, you’ve got some great questions about these topics, and God has provided some amazing answers! Cost is $100 per person and includes lodging, 4 meals, student journal, and a ton of fun! There will be a parent meeting on Sunday, March 17 from 6-8pm. PLEASE contact Elizabeth with questions: econnell@hibbenumc.org or 884-9761.

Adults needed for Salkehatchie! Elizabeth is currently praying and searching for two adults to go to Lexington Salkehatchie, July 13-20 to act as chaperones for Hibben’s youth. In this role, you would be needed to transport youth, work alongside them for the week doing various home improvement projects (absolutely no experience necessary!), and be present at nightly activities and devotions. Cost is $215 and Safe Sanctuary certification is required. If you are interested in learning more about this amazing and rewarding opportunity, please contact Elizabeth at econnell@hibbenumc.org or 884-9761.

Help end world hunger! Your help is needed at the 30-hour Famine fundraisers outlined below (folks are especially needed for Parent's Night Out!).  To sign-up to help with either (or both!) of these, please e-mail Elizabeth at econnell@hibbenumc.org.
  • #1. PARENT’S NIGHT OUT: On Friday, March 15, we will be hosting a babysitting event for Hibben members, Preschool families, and anyone in the community who might like to attend. (EIGHT kids and counting have already signed up for this event!  We've already raised enough money to feed 4 children for one month!)
