UMYF News, October 28

UMYF Sunday: It’s all about Operation Christmas Child this Sunday. We’ll start at the CLLC at 6 pm for dinner and games, then head to the Dollar Store to stock up on goodies for our shoe boxes. Please bring $5 cash to spend. We’ll return to the church at 8 pm.

Canned Food Drive: Only two weeks left for the UMYF Canned Food Drive! Pick up some canned goods and drop them by the box in the Narthex. We’ll donate them to Crisis Ministries just in time for Thanksgiving. REMEMBER: the grade with the most donated canned goods will receive a significant comfort advantage during the Cardboard Campout. Write your grade on the bottom of the cans you donate!

SAVE THE DATE! On Friday, November 13, 7th - 12th graders will have a “Cardboard Campout” on the front lawn of Hibben. Guest speakers will talk to us about homelessness in Charleston, and then we’ll spend the night outside in cardboard boxes. More details to follow soon, but mark your calendars NOW!

UMYF News!

Lots going on in MYF-land this weekend, so have a look and make plans to join in the FUN!

FREE BREAKFAST! Two magic words, right? On Sunday morning during Sunday School hour, we'll be having a pancake breakfast in the CLLC. Hibben is hosting a group on area college students who are members of the Wesley Foundation. Jr. and Sr. High classes are both invited. Hope to see you there!

UMYF Sunday: Rules, Rules, Rules. They're EVERYWHERE! At school, at home, at work, even at church. Join us Sunday from 6 - 8pm in the CLLC. We'll look at rules from a new perspective. Instead of restricting us, can they really liberate us?

Youth Council Team Meetings: Sunday from 5 - 6pm in the CLLC. Join a team and help us plan. Communications, Missions, Witness, Discipleship/Worship, or Fundraising – we need your input!

UMYF Meals: What do teenagers love even more than text messaging? FOOD! If your family would like to provide dinner for about 30 people on an upcoming Sunday night, please contact Elizabeth. We have several open dates this fall and could use your help!

February Ski Trip: Thanks to Carlsen for starting the planning of our 2010 Ski Trip, which will be in February. Join us on Sunday night at MYF for more details!

Praise Band, Christmas Cards, and COOKIES!!!!

Much fun last Sunday! The Praise Band got started up again (and they sound great!).
There were a whopping 31 folks at MYF on Sunday night! Thanks to everyone who came, brought friends and joined in the fun.

We decorated Christmas cards in support of the Belize mission trip fundraiser and baked cookies for Ms. Emily's upcoming trip to Kairos Prison Ministry. She's there RIGHT NOW, so be sure and keep her in your prayers.

Jenna Lucado is Awesome.

At the risk of going on and on and on about how great Revolve was, check out this video of Jenna Lucado, one of the many captivating and inspiring speakers at the event.

Revolve in Charlotte!

As you’ve probably heard by now, we had an AMAZING trip to Charlotte for Revolve last weekend. A huge thanks to Pam Thesing and Jennifer Roberts for bringing the event to our attention. It was well worth the drive and I think everyone who went had a FUN and meaningful experience. Check out these great pictures!

Revolve - 10 of Hibben's youth will be headed to Charlotte on Friday/Saturday for the Revolve event, along with 3 adults. Please keep us in your prayers as we travel for this amazing event! We'll take lots of pictures, I promise.

Facebook - Become a fan of Hibben UMYF on Facebook! Our newly created Fan Page is a great way to get even more info and updates about UMYF happenings.

Re-cap of a BUSY 9/27 MYF meeting

Last Sunday night started off with some productive Youth Council meetings! If you haven't been able to attend a Youth Council meeting yet, it's not too late. We've got lots of events in the works and could use your help with planning and implementing. Pancake breakfasts, silent auctions, the Cardboard Campout, and more are all being discussed.

Here's Adelaide Bosco, a member of the communications team, hard at work:
Mike Roberts is heading up the Witness Team, which is leading the planning for the Cardboard Campout - a homelessness awareness event scheduled for November 13.

Emily Nyers and Becky Thompson are the team leaders for the Fundraising and Discipleship/Worship teams respectively.

After all that planning, the Yaeger family prepared an amazing spaghetti dinner for us all. It was YUMMY! We're in need of meals for the coming weeks. If you're interested in providing dinner for the group (about 30 folks), please contact Joye Wells at jwells15@comcast.net.

Next up, games, games, games! We played hula-hoop ring toss and a classic (and friendly) game of dodge ball.

And finally, we painted some artwork to enhance the freshly painted walls of the youth room. Each person's paintings will be arranged to form the shape of a cross on one of the walls as a reminder that we are "many parts, but one body." (- 1 Corinthians 12:20)

Youth Room Painting

I know you might have seen these pictures already, but I couldn't resist posting them to the blog anyway. The youth room paint-a-thon yielded amazing results. A HUGE thank you to all the youth and adults who helped out last Saturday and during UMYF Sunday night. The room looks brighter, fresher, cleaner and LOVED.
