UMYF News, 9/30

See below for some BREAKING EVENT NEWS about TWO upcoming UMYF happenings:

BREAKING NEWS #1:  COOKIE BAKING!  We'll be baking up a storm Sunday afternoon (10/3) from 4 - 6pm in the CLLC before UMYF.  Come pitch in and get involved in this important part of Karios Prison Ministry.  We'll have all the ingredients needed, but we sure could use your hands.

UMYF Sunday (10/3):  After cookie baking, stick around for the 4th week of THE EXPERIMENT, when we'll talk about self-image makeovers.  And yes, eye shadow, blush and lip stick will be involved.  Bring a friend and join us from 6 - 8 in the CLLC.

BREAKING NEWS #2:  The plan for October 10!  We're switching things up for youth next week (10/10), so check out the plan:
  • 5:00pm:  Meet at Moe's on Longpoint Road for dinner!  Bring money for your food - a percentage of proceeds from food purchases on 10/10 will go to Operation Christmas Child.  After dinner, we'll hop on the church bus and head to Hibben.
  • 6:00pm:  We'll attend a presentation from Dientje Kalisky-Adams, a Holocaust Survivor, in the sanctuary at Hibben.  Her presentation is open to all Hibben members and the public, and will last until approximately 8:00.
  • Parents!  You are welcome and encouraged to attend both dinner at Moe's (the more food we buy, the more money we raise!) AND Ms. Kalisky-Adams' presentation.

UMYF News, 9/23

Raise your hand if you can't believe it's almost OCTOBER!  (For those of you who can't see me, my hand is raised.)  Check out the line-up for this Sunday (9/26) as well as a sneak peek at our busy October calendar below:

Youth Sunday Planning!  This week, we're getting down to business and breaking into small groups to get a BUNCH of our plans down on paper.  Youth Sunday planning is happening during Sunday School hour in the youth room.  The theme is "Listening to God" and we need everyone to pitch in!  Even if you haven't been able to make a planning session yet, come this Sunday.

Hibben's New Service Needs...YOU!  New music.  New audience.  New outreach.  A new opportunity for you to serve.  Help us shape this new service which we hope will include contemporary worship in all forms - song, dance, sharing, outreach, hospitality, and community.  Head to the chapel after the 10:30 worship service this Sunday (9/26) to find out more.  See you there!

UMYF the week (9/26):  It's Week 3 of THE EXPERIMENT and we're talking temptation this time.  We all face temptation every single day, and Jesus did, too.  We could all learn a few things by looking at how He handled the lure of sin...so that's exactly what we're gonna do.  There may or may not be tempting baked goods involved.

A Glance Ahead to October:  Mark your calendars now for these October events!
October 6- 4:00, Pumpkins arrive!  Help us unload!
October 10- 4:00, Karios Prison Cookie Baking in the CLLC
October 10- 6:00, Holocaust Survivor Speaks to Hibben
October 16- 8:00am, Hibben Fall Clean-up Day
October 17- Youth Sunday (youth will lead the 8:15 & 10:30 services)
October 23- Fall Festival

Lots to look forward to!  See you Sunday.

UMYF News, 9/16

What a great kick-off to THE EXPERIMENT last week! 21 of you embarked on a 30-day journey to put your faith in action and answer the question "What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus?"

If you weren't able to be there last week, IT'S NOT TOO LATE! You can still join in on The Experiment by coming to UMYF this Sunday from 6-8pm in the CLLC.

In other news...

Youth Sunday Planning will continue in the Youth Room starting at 9:15am on Sunday (9/19). Bring your craziest, wildest ideas about a theme for the service, which will be on October 17. No idea is too off-the-wall or too small. This service should be a reflection of the creativity, spunk, and energy that you all possess!

Volunteers Needed! I need your help this Sunday (9/19) at 5:00pm in the kitchen in the CLLC. We'll be making sandwiches for hungry Citadel cadets and I can't do it alone! No need to bring anything - just your able hands (which you will have to wash before helping).

UMYF Sunday (9/19): It's Week 2 of THE EXPERIMENT and we'll be talking about fears. Everybody's got 'em! If you were around for Week 1, bring your student journal. If not, we'll give you one this week. Also, if you're able, please bring a $5 donation to cover the cost of your journal.

The Highlight of My Week: While cleaning out some boxes in my office this week, I found a piece of very realistic looking fake bacon. Come to youth on Sunday to find out how we're going to use it!
