Youth News, 5/23

We had a great time at last Sunday's Beach Sweep.  The weather held off for us and we left Sullivan's Island a little cleaner than we found it.  Thanks to everyone who came out to help!

A few announcements:

UMYF Schedule Note: We will not meet this Sunday, May 26. Happy Memorial Day weekend! We will meet again on June 2 from 6-8pm.

Sunday School:  A couple of things to pass along about Sunday School for the next few weeks.
  • May 26 (This Sunday):  Jr. and Sr. High classes will meet in the youth room to finish planning for Superheros of the Bible (details below).  Please come if you can - we've got a lot of work to do and only one more hour to finish it all!
  • June 2: It's Promotion Sunday.  All youth: please gather in the sanctuary at 9:15.  After participating in the first part of the promotion service, you'll be dismissed to go to the gym to help Terry Lupo with a MEGA Backpack Buddies packing party.  See you there! (Parents are encouraged to attend, too.)
  • Starting June 9: All youth will lead the children through Superheros of the Bible activities.  You're asked to come to the gym at 9:15 SHARP to receive your assignment for the day.  Superheros of the Bible will last through August 4 and promises to be lots of fun!

Superheros of the Bible! Our summer Sunday School program for kids will begin on June 9 in the gym at 9:15am. Each week through August 4, kids ages 5-years – rising 6th grade will learn about ordinary people in the Bible who God used in SUPER HEROIC ways! Hibben’s teens will lead the group through games, crafts, and Bible story time. Parents should drop kids off in the gym at 9:15am and sign them out at 10:15am. 3 and 4-year olds should go to the nursery.

Vacation Bible School: I need help from youth during VBS.  June 16 (in the afternoon) and June 17-19 (until noon).  Help is needed in various roles at various stations.  Please e-mail Elizabeth (econnell@hibbenumc.org) if you are able to help.  This is a great and fun way to earn service hours!

Youth News, 5/16

UMYF this Sunday (5/19): It’s Change the World weekend, so we’re going to do our part. 7th – 12th graders...come to the CLLC at 6pm SHARP and bring a bag lunch for dinner. Beverages will be provided. We’re headed to the beach for our annual BEACH SWEEP! We’ll care for God’s creation while we enjoy some time outdoors, and we’ll be back to the church at 8pm. This is a rain or shine event.

UMYF Schedule Note: We will not meet on May 26. Happy Memorial Day weekend! We will meet again on June 2 from 6-8pm.

Sunday School:  All 7th - 12th graders will meet in the youth room for Sunday School hour during the month of May.  We're hard at working planning the children's summer Sunday School program, which begins on June 9.  Last week, we chose the theme "Superheros of the Bible" and had some great ideas about how to bring the Bible to life for Hibben's youngest members.  Bring your good ideas and come to Sunday School this week, from 9:15 - 10:15 in the youth room.

Youth Mentors Needed! I'm searching for 3-4 youth who would like to accompany Hibben's rising 6th and 7th graders on a day trip to Florence, SC on June 11.  We're headed to pack meals for Stop Hunger Now (you may remember hearing about this service project during Revolution).  The trip is free and dinner is included, just bring lunch money. We’ll depart at 11:00am and return at 9:00pm. Contact Elizabeth (econnell@hibbenumc.org) with questions or to sign up! This will be a great way to earn service hours and build relationships with the next generation of UMYF attendees.

Vacation Bible School:  Youth volunteers are needed for VBS, June 16-19 at Hibben.  This is a great way to interact with Hibben's youngest members while earning service hours over the summer.  Hours are 6/16 from 1:30 - 5pm and 6/17-6/19 from 8:30am - 12:30pm.  Please e-mail Elizabeth if you're available at econnell@hibbenumc.org.

Meals needed:  A huge thank you to those who have signed up to provide dinner for an upcoming UMYF meeting.  Dinner is still needed on June 2 and June 9.  If your family or small group can provide dinner for 20 at 6pm on one of these dates, please e-mail Elizabeth at econnell@hibbenumc.org.

Summer Bible Study:  Youth, would you be interested in attending a mid-week Bible Study this summer?  Days and times are still in the works (no early mornings, promise!), but we'd love to gather a small group to dig deeper into God's work and learn how it impacts your life.  If you'd be interested in joining such a group, e-mail Elizabeth, econnell@hibbenumc.org.
