UMYF News, 8/26

Tons and tons of news to share with you this week! First, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who came to Open House last Sunday evening. More than 65 of you showed up, shared a great meal, and got all the inside scoop on plans for Youth Ministry this Fall. It is so amazing to see such supportive parents and family members...a great way to start off the Fall season, for sure!

MISSION SUNDAY: At both the 8:15 and 10:30 services this Sunday (8/29), we'll be celebrating all the mission work that was completed by Hibben members this summer. Many of you were involved in various mission trip (VBS, Belize, St. Simons, Salkehatchie, etc!). If your mission had a t-shirt, please wear it to church on Sunday so you can be recognized for your efforts. I'm so proud of each of you!

UMYF SUNDAY: We'll be meeting on Sunday (8/29) from 6-8pm in the CLLC for dinner, games, and FUN. Hope to see you there...bring a friend!

THE EXPERIMENT: We're starting an exciting new study on September 12 during UMYF time...it's called The Experiment and it's a great chance for you to participate in daily challenges that will deepen your faith. Since we'll be doing to study during UMYF lesson time, it's not an extra time commitment - it's a perfect opportunity! Sign-up with Elizabeth today by e-mailing (eskogman@hibbenumc.org or call 813-8700).

YOUTH SUNDAY: Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 17. It's Youth Sunday! The youth will be in charge of leading both worship services. We'll start planning the service during Sunday School hour on Sunday, September 12. Meet at 9:15 in the Youth Room and get involved!

JUST FOR PARENTS: A new Serving From the Heart study is being offered on Sunday nights from 6-8 PM for four sessions and is a great opportunity for parents who drop off and pick up their child(ren) at youth. Meetings start this Sunday (8/29) in the library. Parents, it's a fantastic way for you to delve into what God has given you in terms of Spiritual gifts, and how they can best use those gifts to serve joyfully! Contact Jennifer Roberts at 270-1161 or jroberts@hibbenumc.org for more info or to sign up.

FUTURE SCHEDULE: Please note that we won't be having UMYF on Sunday, September 5 due to Labor Day.

The Experiment

The Experiment begins on September 12. It's a 6-week small group study that we'll be doing during UMYF each Sunday. Check out this AMAZING video, and sign-up today!

UMYF Open House

The summer's over, which means FALL is right around the corner. We've got a UMYF calendar bursting at the seams with exciting happenings like Youth Sunday, a life changing EXPERIMENT, fundraising, trips, floats (the parade kind), new Sunday School teachers, and much, much more!

You and your family need to be in the know about what's going on so you can make the most of UMYF this fall. That's why we're having a UMYF Open House on Sunday, August 22 from 6-8pm in the CLLC. Invite your friends, your siblings, and your parents - bring your calendars - and join in the fun! Please bring a side dish to share with the group for dinner.

Hope to see you there!

Boat Day Bummer

As I'm typing this, the rain is POURING down...still! Though BOAT DAY 2010 got rained out, I hope you were all able to enjoy your last Sunday afternoon of summer...maybe finally finishing up those summer assignments? Maybe?

A special thanks to Brad Nyers for coordinating the logistics of Boat Day, and to volunteer captains Mr. Kilpatrick, Mr. Hand, Mr. Ducker, and Mr Hinson for being ready to lend us your boats!

Atlanta: The abbreviated story

Here is a random smattering of pictures from the trip to Atlanta last weekend. We had a great time at the (oh, so long) Braves game, and then at Six Flags the next day. Tons more pictures can be found on Facebook!

Some mean looking criminals contributed to the Crime Wave. Complete with choking?

On the swings! The shortest ride in the history of rides!

A partial group shot at the end of a long day at Six Flags.

The clearing sky at the Braves game signaled the end of a 2-hour rain delay.

JAKE!

Our brains are too big for this silly little helmets.

The boys!

The girls! (some of 'em anyway)

Just before the rain.
