Back-to-School BOAT DAY!

You KNOW we just couldn't send you back to school without one last summer UMYF hurray! So, get ready for BOAT DAY on August 16 from 1:30 - 5:30pm. We'll head to Beresford Creek for an afternoon of swimming, knee boarding, tubing and FUN.

But wait! This part is VERY IMPORTANT! If you plan to attend Boat Day, you MUST let Elizabeth know BEFORE AUGUST 12 so we're sure to have adequate boats, captains, life jackets, food, chaperones...you get the picture. Please e-mail me (eskogman@hibbenumc.org) or call me (813-8700) before August 12 to sign-up. All participants (Hibben members and guests) must have a completed waiver, too.

SO, invite your friends, spread the word and get ready for a fun-filled summer afternoon. You won't want to miss it!

Revolve Tour in Charlotte!

We've got a very exciting trip in the works for all 7th - 12th grade girls! Take a look at the video below and mark your calendars for October 2 - 3. Spread the word, invite your friends and fasten your seat belts for an amazing experience. We'll be headed to Charlotte to catch the Revolve Tour's 4Real event. More details to come!

A GIANT re-cap

After much speculation, the GIANT was revealed at July 26th's UMYF meeting. We had a great crowd and everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner and games - including "Signs", lead by Mr. Yaeger:

Then, it was time to face the GIANT! Everyone came face-to-face with a 12-foot Goliath and we took turns trying to mark on his forehead with a marker. Jordan Yaeger came the closest by making a mark on Goliath's beard.

Go, Jordan, go!

Then, we tore Goliath off the wall and each took a piece. We wrote about the "giants" we face in our own lives (school, teachers, relating to parents, evil, etc.) and how, with God's help, we can defeat our giants just like God helped David defeat Goliath.

Thanks to everyone who came on Sunday night and to Sarah, Parks and Megan for bringing friends! Can't wait to see you all at UMYF next Sunday (8/2)!

A GIANT UMYF meeting

UMYF - Sunday, July 26: Have you ever come face-to-face with a GIANT? Well, you'll get your chance on Sunday night. Join us in the CLLC from 6 - 8pm as we welcome our very own GIANT to the group. This is one night you won't want to miss!

Check out the two new posts below - one about Lexington Salkehatchie and another about volunteering for Mission Mania.

See you Sunday!

Lexington Salkehatchie

A huge thanks for all your thoughts and prayers for the crew that went to Lexington Salkehatchie last week. We had an amazing week, made new friends and were able to help out some great folks in need. Here's a group shot - be on the lookout for more photos on the bulletin board by the church office.

Also, please keep the Columbia crew in your prayers this week. They are hard at work RIGHT NOW and will be returning home on Saturday.

We're already counting down the days until next summer's Salkehatchie!

Mission Mania Volunteers Needed!

Calling all youth! We want YOU to help us lead our confirmation class participants at Mission Mania (August 10 - 14).

What is Mission Mania?
A week of fun and fellowship while learning more about our role as Christian servants to our neighbors. (You can earn service hours as well - in case you need them for school or a club!) We will reach out to children, community helpers, the elderly, the disabled, and the home bound.

And as a youth helper, you will be getting to know the future youth who will be in our confirmation class this fall. This of it as being a mentor!

When is Mission Mania?
Monday, August 10 - Friday, August 14, as well as a special day to help collect canned goods for Meals on Wheels on Thursday, August 6. The location and time frame of the August 6 event will be at the Daniel Island Farmers Market from 2:45 - 8 PM (yes, you can work just part of it), and August 10 - 14 will be 10 AM - 2 PM each day. During the full week, activities will begin and end at the church.

Do I have to participate every day?
No - you can help out as many days as you want, we just need a commitment on the days you say you will come. Each day will have a different focus. One day we will deliver Meals on Wheels, one day we will bring lunch to firefighters. We also plan to work on some projects at Windwood Farms, while another day we will help stock the food pantry at Meals on Wheels.

If you want to help, we want you there! Here's how to sign up: contact Pam Thesing at 343-8444 or pamthesing@aol.com by Friday, July 31.

Happy 4th of July!

Enjoy the holiday weekend with your families. We will not be having UMYF on Sunday, July 5, but mark your calendars for movie night on Sunday, July 12!

Check out the re-cap of Water Night below. Special thanks to David Lupo for the great photos!

Have fun and be safe!

Water, water, EVERYWHERE!

We beat the heat last Sunday at UMYF with a night filled with water games! Before we headed outside, we played a heated game of Bible Jeopardy, then got down to business.

The games began with classics like "leaky bucket" and "over-under", along with a new favorite that went a little something like this:

Here are some action shots of "leaky bucket" and "over-under":

Carlsen rallies the troops for the next game:

Another summertime favorite - water balloon toss!
Then, I'm sorry to report, things spiraled out of control. Let's have a look: Ummm, Elizabeth, you're gonna need more than your hand to defend yourself against this!

And to think - that attack was TOTALLY unprovoked. (wink, wink).
