UMYF News, 5/19

UMYF this Sunday (5/22):  Last week we talked about the dangers of dabbling in sin.  This week we'll decide if it's better to commit or omit.  The answer might surprise you!  Read James 4:17 for the inside scoop, then join us from 6-8pm in the CLLC for dinner, games, and an answer to the question...

VBS Volunteers:  I need your help!  We've got lots of kids (ages 3 - 10) signed up for VBS this year, and they need some role models to hang out with for the week!  If you're in town June 12 - 15, volunteer to help out.  Be a team leader and help kids have a great experience at VBS.  Contact Elizabeth if you're interested in helping.

UMYF News, 5/12

Happy Thursday everyone!  Be sure to check out the SUNDAE SUNDAY re-cap below.  There are great pictures...such a fun activity.  As for this week's news:

UMYF Sunday (5/15):  We'll meet in the CLLC from 6-8pm, and all 7th - 12th graders are invited.  We'll have dinner, play some 'Minute to Win It' inspired games, and then talk about dabbling.  Do you dabble?  Is there really any harm in it?  Come on Sunday and find out!

Congrats, Graduates!  This Sunday (5/15) is Graduation Sunday, where the Class of 2011 will be recognized during the 10:30 worship service.  Be sure to be here for this special occasion, and CONGRATS, seniors!  We are proud of you!

SUNDAE SUNDAY recap

Well, I think it's safe to say that last week's inaugural SUNDAE SUNDAY was a smashing success.  But don't take my word for it.  Check out the proof:

Banana prep work:
 The "before" shot...an empty trough:
The critical first layer of bananas:
Topped with 10 feet of ice cream (in a carefully orchestrated pattern!):
Can't forget the cookie crumbles and chocolate syrup!
The group, working together toward total ice cream bliss:
 Ready-whip!
Add some cherries and you have the finished product.  It didn't stand a chance:
On your mark, get set, ICE CREAM!!!
 Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
 Delicious!
The adults, wisely avoiding the trough...
The "after" shot...just about the time everyone began to feel ill...
One last bite!  Until next time...

Sundae Sunday...and more!

Don't miss Sundae Sunday, happening THIS SUNDAY (5/8) from 6-8pm in the CLLC.  We'll start with dinner and games before we construct a 10 FOOT ice cream sundae and pig out!  While we may not break the world's record for longest sundae (the record is 150 feet!), we will have fun and relieve some end-of-the-school-year stress.  Don't miss it!

Sunday School this week:  8th graders, be sure to catch week two of "teens vs. parents", being led by Kent and Cyrene Selby.  This is a great study and will give you some hints about how to keep the peace at home.  Sr. Highers, we're taking the show on the road Sunday morning.  Meet in the youth room at 9:15 SHARP...we're headed to Starbucks.

Vacation Bible School:  I need youth volunteers for VBS!  June 12 - 15...be a team leader and play with Hibben's youngest members!  E-mail me if you're interested in helping out.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!  I hope all you moms out there have a wonderful Mother's Day on Sunday!  (hint, hint to those of you who haven't made plans to honor your mom.  You've got 3 days.  Get moving.)
