Youth News, 4/25

UMYF Schedule Note:  There will be no UMYF this Sunday (4/28), but we will meet again on Sunday, May 5 from 6-8pm.

30-hour Famine THIS WEEKEND: Our 30-hour fast begins tomorrow (Friday) at 12:30pm.  There is still time to join our team and participate in the event!  Just stop eating at 12:30pm and come to the church, ready to spend the night, at 5pm on Friday.  As of this post, we are only $445 shy of our $3,600 fundraising goal.  We are so close to having enough money to feed 10 children for one year!  Please keep this group in your prayers.  The fast ends at 6:30pm on Saturday.  Contact Elizabeth with questions (econnell@hibbenumc.org) or to donate.

Youth Mentors Needed! I'm searching for 3-4 youth who would like to accompany Hibben's rising 6th and 7th graders on a day trip to Florence, SC on June 11.  We're headed to pack meals for Stop Hunger Now (you may remember hearing about this service project during Revolution).  The trip is free and dinner is included, just bring lunch money. We’ll depart at 11:00am and return at 9:00pm. Contact Elizabeth (econnell@hibbenumc.org) with questions or to sign up! This will be a great way to earn service hours and build relationships with the next generation of UMYF attendees.

Mark your calendars:  Graduation Sunday is scheduled for May 19.  If you're a member of the Class of 2013 (high school or higher education graduate), PLEASE e-mail Elizabeth (econnell@hibbenumc.org) to let her know.  I want to properly recognize all our graduates.  Please don't assume that I know you're graduating!  More info on Graduation Sunday festivities will be coming your way soon.

Vacation Bible School:  Youth volunteers are needed for VBS, June 16-19 at Hibben.  This is a great way to interact with Hibben's youngest members while earning service hours over the summer.  Hours are 6/16 from 1:30 - 5pm and 6/17-6/19 from 8:30am - 12:30pm.  Please e-mail Elizabeth if you're available at econnell@hibbenumc.org.

Meals needed:  A huge thank you to those who have signed up to provide dinner for an upcoming UMYF meeting.  There are only a couple of dates still in need of food:  May 5 and May 19.  If your family or small group can provide dinner for 20 at 6pm on either date, please e-mail Elizabeth at econnell@hibbenumc.org.

Summer Bible Study:  Youth, would you be interested in attending a mid-week Bible Study this summer?  Days and times are still in the works (no early mornings, promise!), but we'd love to gather a small group to dig deeper into God's work and learn how it impacts your life.  If you'd be interested in joining such a group, e-mail Elizabeth, econnell@hibbenumc.org.

Youth News, 4/18

Whew!  It's a busy time of year here in youth-land.  Check out these announcements so you're sure to get in on all the action:

UMYF This Sunday (4/21): Over the past two weeks, we’ve talked about judging the sin of others and acknowledging the sin in our own lives. This Sunday, we’ll take it one step further and talk about what happens when your faith starts to fade. How can we live boldly in a world that sometimes drags us down? All 7th – 12th graders are invited and everyone should bring a friend! We’ll meet in the gym from 6-8pm and have dinner, too.

30-hour Famine: Our 30-hour fast is quickly approaching! Only 8 more days to raise money to reach our goal of feeding 10 children for 1 year. Join Hibben’s team! All 7th – 12th graders (and any adults who’d like to join our fast) should go to 30hourfamine.com and join Hibben’s fundraising team. Our fast will be April 26-27, and our goal is to raise $3,600. Contact Elizabeth with questions (econnell@hibbenumc.org) and get ready for a life changing experience.

Senior High Sunday School: Attention 9th-12th graders - you've been working hard and learning a lot (I hope) during Sunday School the past few weeks, so this Sunday we're taking the show on the road.  Please meet in the youth room at 9:15am.  We'll gather there before heading to Starbucks to enjoy some fellowship.  Please bring some money for a treat if you'd like one!

Youth News, 4/4

UMYF this Sunday (4/7): All 7th – 12th graders are invited to the gym this Sunday from 6-8pm for UMYF. We’ll play some new games, have a delicious dinner, and have a stone throwing contest. Big prizes for the winner!

Meals needed!  Without support from wonderful families like yours, our tradition of serving dinner at UMYF meetings is in danger of ending!  When no one signs up to provide dinner, the cost of the meal comes out of the UMYF annual budget, limiting what we're able to do in ministry with Hibben's youth.  We are in need of meals on April 14, May 5, May 12, and May 19.  Are you able to help?  Food is needed for 20 people, served at 6pm.  If you can pitch in, please email Elizabeth with the date you'd prefer: econnell@hibbenumc.org.

30-hour Famine:  We have already raised almost $1,200 to fight hunger around the world!  Keep up the great work.  It's still not too late to join Hibben’s team! All 7th – 12th graders (and any adults who’d like to join our fast) should go to 30hourfamine.com and join Hibben’s fundraising team. Our fast will be April 26-27, and our goal is to raise enough money to feed 10 people for 1 year. We’ve got our sights set on raising $3,600 or more and we need your help. Contact Elizabeth with questions (econnell@hibbenumc.org) and get ready for a life changing experience.

Summer Bible Study: Would you be interested in attending a mid-week Bible Study this summer?  Days and times are still in the works (no early mornings, promise!), but we'd love to gather a small group to dig deeper into God's word and learn how it impacts your life.  If you'd be interested in joining such a group, please e-mail Elizabeth: econnell@hibbenumc.org.

Salkehatchie: All youth ages 14 and older are encouraged to attend Salkehatchie summer service this summer! It’s a life changing service opportunity here in South Carolina. Hibben will be sending groups to Spartanburg, June 15-22 and to Lexington County, July 13-20 (or, you can pick another camp that works with your schedule). To register, go to Salkehatchie.org, print the application, and mail it to the address at the bottom of the form. SPACES ARE FILLING UP, so register now if you haven’t already! Once your application has been sent, please notify Elizabeth by e-mailing econnell@hibbenumc.org. Financial assistance is available!

Act Up! Spring Retreat:  Due to a lack of response/interest, the spring retreat planned for April 12-14 to Murrell's Inlet is being postponed.  Please stay tuned for info about a future event or teaching series on love, dating, sex, and intimacy as it is such an important topic to address from a Christian perspective.
