Youth News, 11/19

Dinner Needed!  Parents, we are in need of dinner this Sunday (11/25) at 5:30pm.  If your family can provide a meal for 20 people, please e-mail Elizabeth at econnell@hibbenumc.org.  This would be a GREAT way to get rid of all your leftover turkey!  : )

UMYF this Sunday (11/25): All 7th – 12th graders are invited this Sunday from 5:30 – 8pm (please note the earlier start time). It’s MOVIE NIGHT! We’ll be watching Joyeux Noel, an amazing movie which will help us understand more about what it means to have an “advent attitude.” Come for dinner, a movie based on a true story, and fun with friends.

Please note: There will be no UMYF on December 2.

Christmas Party:  Would you and your family like to host the UMYF Christmas Party at your home?  I'm looking for a place that can accommodate about 20 folks for a pot-luck meal, and the date is flexible.  If you'd like more details, please contact me: econnell@hibbenumc.org.

SKI TRIP: This Sunday (11/25) is the deadline to register for the ski trip!  All Hibben members and friends are invited to join in the fun, happening January 18 - 21 in Winterplace, WV. Cost per person is $275 and includes lodging, equipment rental, lift tickets, 5 meals, and transportation. Discounts are available for those under 12 years of age and for non-skiers. More information can be found on the bulletin board by the copy room or by e-mailing Elizabeth at econnell@hibbenumc.org. A non-refundable deposit of $145 is due by Nov. 25 (this Sunday!) with the balance of $130 due by Dec. 16. FUNDRAISING IS AVAILABLE!

Safe Sanctuary revision: If you're a teen who likes to help in children's church or the nursery, this one's for you!  We've put a temporary hold on your participation with these ministries until we can offer a teen version of Safe Sanctuary training for you.  I'm working now on plans for short, basic training that will allow you to continue serving in all the ways you like.  Stay tuned for details, and until then enjoy a short "vacation" from volunteering with these ministries.

Trip to Charlotte: 2 spots remain for our trip to volunteer at the Operation Christmas Child Processing Center in Charlotte, NC on December 1.  At the processing center, we’ll work to inspect and prepare the shoe boxes for shipment overseas. These volunteer spots are highly sought after by churches throughout the region, so huge thanks to Pam Thesing for securing space for Hibben’s youth.  Here are the trip highlights:
  • Fundraising opportunities are available to offset trip cost. See Elizabeth for details.
  • We’ll depart at 9:00am on Saturday, December 1 and return to Hibben around 4pm on Sunday, December 2.
  • We’ll have afternoon free time on Saturday before working our shift at the processing center from 6-10pm.
  • Cost per person is $60.
The trip is now open to all ages!  Sign up today.  I’ve had the privilege of volunteering at the processing center twice before, and it really is an amazing and powerful experience. Plus, it’s a BLAST, too! Sign-up today!
