UMYF News, 2/16

UMYF Sunday (2/19):  This Sunday from 6-8pm in the CLLC, we'll talk more about what it means to have faith in the real world.  It's not always as easy as it seems, is it?  Special guest Bill Dorfner will share with us how he keeps his faith while serving on the Mt. Pleasant police force.  Don't miss this night!

Revolution 2012: THIS SUNDAY (2/19) is the deadline to register for Revolution in Columbia, March 16 -18.  Saturday free time plans have been confirmed, and this is one afternoon you won’t want to miss.  We’re headed to AIR FUN in Columbia with 3 other youth groups to enjoy THREE HOURS of bull riding, rock wall, jousting, adult inflatable slides and bouncy house, obstacle course, etc.  IT IS GOING TO BE A TOTAL BLAST!!!  To register, complete a registration form (check the bulletin board beside the copy room) and pay a deposit of $72.50.  FUNDRAISING is available – don’t let money stand in your way!

Dinner needed Sunday!  Parents, we are in need of dinner for UMYF on Sunday (2/19).  If you’re able to pitch in to provide a meal for 20 folks at 6pm, please e-mail me at econnell@hibbenumc.org.  Dinner is also needed on February 26, March 4, and March 11.

Help Needed!: Ever feel like it’s tough to find a place to use your gifts and talents in the church?  Well fear not!  There are two great opportunities coming up that give you the chance to serve your church family and have an impact.  If you like kids and wouldn’t mind giving some parents a much needed break, you can volunteer at the upcoming Family Spaghetti Dinner, sponsored by Family Ministries.  It’s on Friday, February 24.  If you’re interested, let me know!  If kids aren’t your thing, but being friendly is, then consider helping out at the Belize Silent Auction on March 10 from 5-9pm.  Volunteers are needed to serve food, help people at the auction, and generally be friendly.  If you’re busy on the 10th, then come on the 9th after school and help with the auction set-up.  Who says you can’t be a missionary to Belize by helping out here at home?!?!  Let me know if you’d like more info about either opportunity.

MEGA H.Y.P.E.R.!

So much news!  So many headlines!  Be sure to read all the way to the end so you'll be up-to-date on all the latest happenings in UMYF-land.

UMYF this Sunday (2/12):  It’s BRING YOUR BIBLE night at UMYF.  You know what that means?  You should...bring...your Bible.  We'll meet from 6-8pm in the CLLC and talk about where YOU draw the line when it comes to temptation in your life.

Souper Bowl of Caring:  A big thanks to the youth who collected donations after the 3 services last Sunday.  Your efforts, combined with the generosity of the congregation, raised $325.15, which the youth will donate to The Table, Hibben's new outreach to the homeless and hungry in our community.  Way to go!

UMYF Dinner Needed:  Can your family provide dinner for UMYF on an upcoming Sunday evening?  Eating together is such a wonderful tradition, and we need your help to keep it going!  Dinner for 20 people, served at 6pm, is needed on: February 19, February 26, March 4, and March 11.  Feel free to team up with another family, and don’t be afraid to keep it simple!  If you can help with any of the dates above, please e-mail me (econnell@hibbenumc.org).

Miss a Sunday, miss a lot: If you haven't been attending Sunday School lately, get back in the habit!  The 8th/9th grade class has welcomed Trish Harlan as a new teacher, joining Tim Ristau...they make a great team!  And the 10th - 12th grade class has started a study called "Sticky Faith", giving tips and insights about faith after high school.  Get in on the action from 9:15 - 10:15 in the CLLC!

Revolution 2012: The deadline to register for Revolution, the state-wide youth event, is FEBRUARY 19!  Info is available on the bulletin board beside the copy room.  Make plans to come along, March 16 - 18 in Columbia.  Cost per person is $145 and gets you access to this incredible, faith-strengthening, life-changing weekend.  Register today!

Adult Chaperones Needed: I am in need of an additional adult (age 25 or older) to go to Revolution in Columbia as a chaperone, March 16 – 18.  If you’re interested in attending this exciting weekend with a great group of youth, please let me know.  In addition, a chaperone is needed to attend Spartanburg Salkehatchie, June 16 – 23…you do not have to be handy to make a difference!  Contact Elizabeth for more details about either trip.  This is a great way to build relationships with our youth!

Hibben Parenting Panel:  Parents!  Join us on Sunday, March 4 from noon - 2pm for a new event aimed at encouraging you as you walk the winding (and sometimes rocky!) road of parenting.  This event is FREE and includes lunch for your family and activities for your kids/teens as you enjoy a presentation from a panel of veteran parents and school administrators.  Registration is easy: pick up a short form from the bulletin board outside the sanctuary or simply e-mail your name, number attending, and children's ages to econnell@hibbenumc.org.  Come and be encouraged!

GET A JOB!  How many times have you heard that one?  If you’re 16 or older and have a driver’s license, an opportunity exists at the Creek Club at I’On as a golf cart shuttle driver.  You’ll be responsible for shuttling event guests to and from their cars…a friendly disposition is required!  They’ve got lots of events coming up, which means lots of chances for you to make some extra cash.  If you’re interested, let me know and I’ll give you more details.

Questions about any of these announcements?  Contact Elizabeth at econnell@hibbenumc.org or 884-9761.  See you Sunday!
